From March 28th to July 23rd, 2023, the Orsay Museum is celebrating two exceptional 19th century artists in a unique exhibition: Manet and Degas.
Although their profession, their era and their shared acquaintances led to similarities in their lives, their individual personalities and their art bear witness to a clear contrast between the two…
Manet, on the one hand, was independent, loved celebrity and broke codes, while Degas, more discreet, was also no doubt less charismatic. Whether in their career choices, their literary tastes or even their daily way of life, everything seems to oppose them. Nonetheless, despite their differences, the two men wove a somewhat rocky relationship and friendship.
This unprecedented exhibition underlines the complicity and rivalry that animated these two geniuses throughout their lives, with over a hundred works presented. A must see.
